The Russian Pacific Fleet announced early Thursday that a detachment of Russian and Chinese warships has begun a joint naval patrol mission in the Pacific Ocean, aimed at maintaining peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
According to Sputnik news agency, the press office of the Russian Pacific Fleet stated:
"Ships of the Russian Navy and the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy have formed a joint detachment and entered the Sea of Japan to carry out a joint patrol mission in the Asia-Pacific region."
The detachment includes the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Tributs and the destroyer Shaoxing, in addition to supply vessels from both countries.
According to the statement, the joint patrol aims to strengthen maritime cooperation between Russia and China, maintain peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, monitor the maritime area, and protect the maritime economic infrastructure of the Russian Federation and China.
Russian and Chinese sailors are also scheduled to conduct training exercises on maneuvering and coordination during the joint drills.
It is worth noting that Russian-Chinese joint naval patrols in the Asia-Pacific region are held annually, with the first patrol conducted in 2021.
