Nairobi - Saba:
At least six people were killed when an air ambulance service plane crashed in a residential area near the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, on Thursday.
AMREF Flying Doctors said the Cessna Citation XLS medium-sized jet had taken off from an airport in Nairobi and was en route to Somaliland before crashing.
The company did not announce the number of casualties or the possible cause of the accident, but said in a statement that it was "fully cooperating with the relevant aviation authorities and emergency response teams to determine the circumstances of the accident."
The crash occurred in the Mwehoku residential area of Kiambu County, a district adjacent to the capital, Nairobi.
Kiambu County Commissioner Henry Wafula told reporters at the scene that four people on board the plane were killed, while two others who were inside the house that the plane hit died.
The Kenya Red Cross Society reported that rescue teams rushed to the crash site, explaining that the plane crashed into a house in a populated area.
The society had previously announced that the ill-fated aircraft was a helicopter, before it was later determined to be a jet. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause and circumstances of the accident, amid a state of shock among residents of the area.
