SANAA, Feb. 15 (Saba) -The Yemeni army’s air defenses on today shot down a fighter jet belonging to the Saudi-led military coalition in retaliation for the alliance’s military aggression.
The army’s spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Sarie explained in a statement, that the country’s air defense units managed to target and shoot down a fighter jet of Tornado type in the skies of Yemen’s northern province of Jawf .
It also quoted spokesman for Yemen’s Armed Saree as saying that the multi-role combat aircraft had been shot down with an advanced surface-to-air missile.
Gen. Sarie stressed that the violation of Yemeni airspace is no longer permissible.
The Tornado is a multirole, twin-engined aircraft designed to excel at low-level penetration of enemy defenses.
Tornado has many similarities with the F-111; the Tornado differs in being a multi-role aircraft with more advanced onboard systems .
It is noteworthy that the "Tornado" aircraft is a multi-combat fighter plane, used as a stalker and launcher, and it is a European joint production, and it consists of two jet engines, and was designed mainly as an attack plane capable of attacking in all weather conditions, at low altitude, and at supersonic speeds
The aircraft was developed to be able of carrying smart and cluster bombs and biological weapons such as thermal weapons .
The twin-engine Tornado speed is 990 mph, a combat range of 863 miles, and equipped with anti-radar missiles and paveway bombs.
The Yemeni army has devised and manufactured its own ballistic missiles and combat drones, which has changed power balance against the failing Saudi-led coalition.
