MOSCOW June 29. 2024 (Saba) - The Russian foreign ministry on Friday sent objection to the Japanese mission in Moscow over Tokyo's intent to carry out military drills with Germany and Spain near Russian borders.
On 28 June, a strongly-worded objection was handed to the Japanese embassy regarding plans of Tokyo's authorities to conduct a series of military exercises jointly with Germany and Spain in Hokkaido Island on 19 – 25 July, the ministry said in a statement carried by RT TV.
The Japanese side was advised that a provocative military activity may not be conducted near Russia's far eastern borders in cooperation with NATO member states, the statement added, dismissing such activity as "potential threat to Russia's security."
The irresponsible policy adopted by administration of the Japanese prime minister, Fumio Kishida, puts Tokyo on way to dangerous escalation of tensions in northeast Asia, Asia region and the Pacific Ocean as a whole, it warned.
The ministry warned to take proper counter-measures to boost defensive capacities and guard the Russian Federation's sovereignty.
Earlier, the Japanese defense minister said his self-defense air forces would carry out separate drills with air forces of France, Germany and Spain this Summer.
