SANA'A August 19. 2024 AD (Saba)– Maj. Gen. Ali al-Saifi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Human Resources and Financial Sector, alongside Maj. Gen. Mohammed al-Hakim, Head of the Civil Status Authority, inaugurated on Monday the new automated periodic technical inspection center for vehicles in Saref area in Sana'a province.
During the opening ceremony, the officials were briefed on the center’s capabilities, which include detecting technical malfunctions that can lead to traffic accidents.
The center aims to enhance road safety by ensuring vehicles undergo regular technical inspections.
Traffic Director General Brig. Gen. Dr. Bakil al-Barashi outlined the center’s phased approach. The initial phase focuses on inspecting heavy and medium-sized vehicles, including public transport buses with a capacity of over 26 passengers.
This initiative is a response to increased traffic accidents attributed to vehicle malfunctions and a lack of regular maintenance.
The center will offer both mandatory and optional inspections. The Traffic Police will require drivers to present a technical inspection certificate from the center to complete traffic-related procedures.
Al-Saifi emphasized the center’s role in improving road safety and reducing accidents.
He noted that this center is a pilot project, with plans to establish similar centers at the governorate level. The inspection fees will be adjusted to accommodate citizens' circumstances.
This move aligns with recommendations from the House of Representatives and government directives aimed at curbing traffic accidents by enforcing stricter vehicle maintenance standards and adhering to international specifications for vehicle imports.
