New York - Saba: A UN investigation committee confirmed that all countries and international organizations, including the United Nations, "are obligated to end the illegal Zionist presence in the occupied Palestinian territory."
This came in a statement issued on Friday, by the Independent International Commission of Inquiry, affiliated with the United Nations, concerned with crimes committed in the occupied Palestinian territory.
The head of the committee, Navi Pillay, said: The advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the legal effects of Zionist policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territory states that "the presence of "Israel" there is contrary to international law."
Pillay stressed that the main cause of the long-standing conflict and cycles of violence is the "Zionist occupation."
She added: The committee concluded in its report submitted to the United Nations General Assembly in 2022 that "the occupation is contrary to international law."
She stressed that all countries are obligated not to recognize "Israel's" territorial claims or sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory.
She continued: Countries should not support the continued occupation of Palestinian land by Israel, nor should they recognize Quds as the capital of Israel or transfer their diplomatic representatives to Quds.
