Sana’a - Saba:

Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, in cooperation with the Fund for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Disabled and the National Union of Yemeni Disabled Associations, launched on Monday a two-day seminar in the capital Sana’a aimed at updating and developing the legislative framework for persons with disabilities.

At the seminar’s opening, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Samir Baja'alah emphasized the ministry’s commitment to prioritizing the rehabilitation of individuals with special needs.

He stated that the seminar is part of ongoing efforts to update the legal and legislative system to better support persons with disabilities, ensuring their capabilities are enhanced and they can actively contribute to the future.

Dr. Ali Mughli, Executive Director of the Disabled Care and Rehabilitation Fund, stressed the importance of the seminar in addressing the growing challenges faced by the disabled community.

He highlighted the need to review current laws and identify gaps in their implementation, ensuring alignment with international agreements such as the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Abdullah Bunyan, Rector of the National Union of Disabled Associations, underlined the participation of 60 government agencies and disability organizations, emphasizing the collective responsibility to create a legislative environment that guarantees the rights of persons with disabilities.

On the first day, four sessions were held discussing key topics, including legislative policies, the Ministry of Health’s role, and educational rights for persons with disabilities. The discussions aimed to formulate proposals for legal reforms to ensure better inclusion and rights for the disabled community.

The seminar is expected to generate recommendations that will influence government policies and strengthen the rights of persons with disabilities.
