The director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, described yesterday as one of the darkest, most difficult and bloody days at Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, since the start of the northern invasion.
In a press statement, Abu Safiya explained that Israeli warplanes targeted the hospital and hit more than eight buildings in its vicinity, saying: "One of these buildings was inhabited, and some people came out of it with their bodies on fire, and some of them were tragically martyred."
He explained that the brutal bombardment resulted in the death of eight people, and there are still children trapped under the charred rubble, adding: "The situation became critical when bulldozers and tanks entered the area and started firing directly at the hospital from all directions."
Tank shells hit the intensive care unit, located on the west side, which started a fire that forced us to evacuate the patients quickly and miraculously, we managed to evacuate the emergency room's oxygen cylinders and the entire isolation section was burned down.
"Thankfully, we managed to extinguish the fire with our own hands, as there were no fire extinguishers available , the water supply was cut off , we used blankets and our bare hands to control the fire," he added.
"The scene inside the ICU was like a war zone, with bullets penetrating equipment, walls and windows."
