The leaders of the Eurasian Economic Union on Thursday approved the decision to enter into force the free trade agreement between the Union and Iran.
According to the website (Russia Today), this came in a statement published by the Kremlin, after the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, held in the resort of "Igora" near the city of St. Petersburg in the Russian Leningrad region.
The agreement is due to come into force in 2025, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk previously announced.
The leaders of the Eurasian Economic Union also endorsed the decision to grant Iran observer status in the Eurasian Union (Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan).
The leaders of the Union also adopted today an agreement on the unified customs transit system for the countries of the Union and third parties.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Eurasian Economic Commission Pakistan Sagentayev told reporters today that the leaders of the Union discussed several important issues on the agenda in areas such as trade, customs regulation, international cooperation, and common markets.
The Eurasian Economic Union includes Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, and the bloc's market is estimated at 190 million consumers.
