Washington - Saba:
The US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant announced that the possibility of delisting Chinese stocks from US exchanges has not been ruled out, indicating that "all options are on the table."
In an interview with "Fox Business" on Wednesday, Bessant said in response to a question about whether the administration of US President Donald Trump is ready to delist Chinese stocks from US exchanges in light of the escalation of mutual tariffs between the two countries: "I think everything is under discussion."
Trump had earlier said that additional tariffs on Chinese goods of 104% would take effect from Wednesday.
Besant lamented China's decision to impose countervailing duties, calling it a "losing proposition" for Beijing, suggesting that the two countries could move forward if the US shifts its economic priorities toward production, while China focuses on consumption.
"The U.S. is trying to adjust the economic balance toward more production. "China has to adjust the balance toward more consumption. If at some point we can get there, we can move forward in the same direction," he said, warning Beijing against attempts to devalue its currency.
