Sana'a - Saba:
The General Secretariat of the Yemeni Writers Union mourned the great poet Dr. Sultan Al-Sorimi, who passed away today in Sana'a after a long creative career in which he left prominent fingerprints in Yemeni literature and poetry.
The statement stressed that with his passing, the Yemeni cultural scene lost one of its most prominent poets who enriched national, lyrical, and social poetry, and embodied the aspirations of Yemeni society.
The statement praised Al-Sorimi's unique poetic experience that spanned more than five decades, and his creative partnership with the artist Abdul Basit Absi, which enriched poetry and singing.
His poems also dealt with the details of Yemenis' daily life, making him a distinguished voice in expressing public concerns, and one of the pioneers who laid the foundations of the Yemeni Writers Union as a unitary institution that promotes cultural and literary values.
