Gaza-Saba:
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has warned that the pollution of drinking water in the Gaza Strip has reached alarming levels that are harming the health of the population.
The office said in a post on the X platform on Wednesday that modern monitoring of water quality in the Gaza Strip reveals alarming rates of pollution.
He added that there is a UN mission in the displacement sites in Gaza City, which found very poor conditions in terms of drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, exhausted by the continuation of the aggression for more than 15 months, in addition to repeated displacement, face severe and persistent water scarcity.
According to municipal data in Gaza, water production throughout Gaza has dropped by nine percent over the past month, and there is a significant loss of water due to damage to infrastructure, leading to several problems, including leakage through pipes.
The Palestinian Water Authority estimates that more than 80 percent of Gaza's water sector has been affected, including wells, pumping stations, desalination, distribution networks, and sewage treatment.
