New York - Saba:
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) stressed on Saturday that "the United Nations does not plan to replace the Agency in the Palestinian territories, and the Knesset must retract the decision to ban it."
The agency warned that time is running out for the Zionist ban on the agency to take effect, which will prevent it from providing its services to millions of Palestinian refugees in Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, including East Al-Quds.
UNRWA's Director of Communication and Information Juliette Touma said this in an interview with Radio and Television Ireland (RTE), the content of which was quoted by the agency on its account on the X platform.
The UN warning comes less than a month before the end of January, when the occupation's decision to ban UNRWA's work in the areas under its control comes into effect, after the Knesset voted on the decision last October.
The UN official said: "Time is running out to impose a possible ban on the agency, which prevents it from providing its essential services to millions of Palestinian refugees in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Al-Quds."
On October 28, the Israeli Knesset finally approved a ban on UNRWA's activity in the occupied Palestinian territories, and the decision comes into effect three months after the vote, i.e. the end of January 2025.
