German researcher: Corporate bankruptcies reach levels similar to 2009 crisis

Berlin - Saba:

Economic data showed that corporate bankruptcies in Germany have risen to levels similar to those during the 2009 financial crisis.

According to the Russia Today website on Monday, the head of the bankruptcy research department at the Halle Institute for Economic Research, Steffen Müller, said: "We are in the range where some months can easily reach their highest levels in twenty years."

Müller added "At the time of the financial crisis in 2009, we had about 1,400 insolvent partnerships and companies per month and now we have reached this level again."

Müller pointed out that "the number of small companies that went bankrupt at that time was similar to the number of large companies that went bankrupt, but today it is about 500 small companies, which are those with up to 10 employees."

He added that "in light of the bankruptcy of more larger companies, this means that more economic assets are lost in the bankruptcy process."

A report issued by the credit agency "Credit Reform" last December confirmed this trend, as it showed that bankruptcies among German companies in 2024 reached their highest level since 2015.
