Baghdad - Saba:
Iraqi security source confirmed today, Saturday, the launch of a large-scale security operation in Wadi al-Shai near Kirkuk, aiming to end any presence of ISIS terrorist cells.
The source said in an interview with the Iraqi "Al-Maalouma" Agency: "A joint security force, supported by intelligence detachments, set out from more than one axis to carry out a combing operation in the western and northern parts of Wadi al-Shai."
He explained that "the operation comes within the fourth and final phase of the plan to eliminate the remnants of the terrorist ISIS."
He pointed out that "Wadi al-Shai is one of the most prominent areas that have been a source of concern in recent years, due to its complex geography that has attracted many cells of the terrorist organization."
He added: "This rugged geography has been used for hiding and training, and also to carry out attacks against security forces and civilians, which necessitated the development of a deterrent plan to end the danger of those areas."
It is worth noting that "Wadi Al-Shai is one of the vast and sprawling areas surrounding Kirkuk, and is characterised by a complex geography that includes dense trees and intertwined rivers, which makes security operations within it require exceptional efforts."
