Hajjah - Saba: During the year 1445 AH, the Office of Economy, Industry and Investment in Hajjah Governorate achieved a shift in developing inspection and control work on goods, following up on the implementation of updated price lists, and launching electronic portal services.

During the past year, the office worked to enhance coordination with the specifications and standards, environmental health, the Chamber of Commerce in the governorate, the Consumer Protection Association and security agencies to achieve the desired goals of field control work.

The office and its branches in the directorates, in cooperation with the Yemeni Standards Authority, implemented a campaign to monitor and verify the measuring, weight and measurement tools used in the buying and selling process, and implemented price control campaigns.

A report issued by the office received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) stated that an awareness campaign was implemented and posters were distributed for the new price of bread in the governorate centers and directorates to ensure compliance with the ministry's decision.

It pointed out that a field visit was carried out by the supervisory committees within the campaign to boycott American and Israeli goods to limit the boycotted goods in shops, stores and warehouses, and to coordinate with scholars to raise awareness of the importance of boycotting these products.

The office organized a competition in the field of home economics with the participation of 20 schools within the campaign to boycott American and Israeli products and goods to raise awareness of the importance of this boycott. It also held the first consumer exhibition in the governorate on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, which included 50 sections for basic food and consumer goods and clothing.

The report pointed out that last year witnessed the launch of the electronic portal services to complete transactions.. stressing the keenness to activate the role of society in supporting the efforts of supervision and raising awareness of the importance of adhering to the mechanism of selling bread by the kilogram and its parts, and reporting any violations by calling the ministry's toll-free number and the office's operations number.

It pointed out that the field teams detected 434 violations through 1,300 field visits that included 12,908 shops in the governorate center and directorates. He indicated that the violations were distributed as follows: 68 violations of not displaying prices, 77 price increases, 154 damaged and expired goods, 73 violations of bread weight shortages, in addition to 10 violations of shortages in packaging and sizes.

It pointed out that the violations included seven violations of specifications, three cases of poor storage, three cases of commercial fraud, one violation of refusal to inspect, and another of no scale, in addition to 35 other violations.

The report stated that 140 commercial records were issued, including 111 new records and 29 renewals. He pointed out the activities, programs and events implemented by the office within the framework of strengthening the factors of steadfastness and supporting the Palestinian resistance in Gaza and consolidating the faith identity.

The Director of the Office of Economy, Industry and Investment in the governorate, Mahmoud Wahban, confirmed that the plan for the coming period includes implementing activities and training courses to enhance the skills and capabilities of employees.

He stated that coordination will be made with the offices of zakat and endowments and revenue offices to implement small projects and others in the field of economic empowerment to support the local product and productive families.

Wahban pointed out that the second consumer exhibition will be held in the governorate before the month of Ramadan with the participation of national food companies to meet the needs of citizens.
