Gaza - Saba:
The General Conference of UNRWA Workers' Unions has affirmed standing by the management in defending and protecting the Agency from any attempts to compromise or liquidate it.
The UNRWA Workers' Union expressed in a statement Friday, its categorical rejection of the reactivation of exceptional leave, considering that this is an unjust decision that strikes job security and is an unacceptable transgression, and increases the state of tension and frustration among employees who form the backbone of UNRWA.
It pointed to what colleagues who were forced to flee from the Gaza Strip to Egypt to save their lives, and put them on exceptional leave without salary, is an unjustified measure that is not in line with the humanitarian values on which UNRWA was founded.
The union called on the senior management to review these unfair decisions and retract them immediately, and to open a serious and genuine dialogue with employee representatives to reach fair solutions that ensure the preservation of the institution and its stability without compromising the rights of its employees.
Last Tuesday, the US President signed a document to stop US participation in the United Nations Human Rights Council and to continue stopping funding for UNRWA.
