New York - Saba:
Bloomberg confirmed on Tuesday that recent weeks have witnessed a slowdown in the movement of ships through the Red Sea, despite the long period of cessation of Yemeni operations.
The agency said: "Despite Ansar Allah's declaration of a truce since last month and the absence of any incident in the Red Sea, the number of ships sailing through the Gulf of Aden has remained unchanged, according to the Joint Maritime Information Center."
The agency quoted senior executives from the world's largest shipping companies, warning that "any return to the Red Sea is likely to be slow amid volatile tensions in the Middle East," and that "shippers are still using the longer route at the southern tip of Africa."
According to a weekly update from the Joint Maritime Information Center, "Although the lull can be seen as an improvement in maritime security, the threat to commercial vessels has not changed, and transit numbers are fairly flat."
