Sana'a - Saba:

A significant step towards addressing the needs of the homeless population was taken in the capital Sana'a with the opening of al-Ihsan Center for the Care and Shelter of the Homeless "Unaccompanied Mentally Ill People" in the Capital Sana'a.

The center, launched was inaugurated by First Deputy Prime Minister Mohammed Meftah and Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Samir Baja'aleh.

The center, funded by the Zakat Authority and various government agencies, is part of the National Program for the Care and Shelter of the Homeless. Initially, it will provide care, health, rehabilitation, and social integration services to 200 residents, with plans for expansion.

Meftah emphasized the center's role in protecting vulnerable individuals and called for collaborative efforts from the wealthy, business community, humanitarian organizations, and expatriates to support this initiative. He highlighted the intensive therapeutic needs of this population and expressed gratitude to all contributors.

Minister Baja’aleh underscored the center's embodiment of human dignity and social cohesion, reflecting the government's commitment to vulnerable groups. He praised the Zakat Authority's support and emphasized the importance of the center's social, health, psychological, and economic services.

Sheikh Shamsan Abu Nishtan, Chairman of the Zakat Authority, reiterated his commitment to the project, noting it as the third center sponsored by the Authority in partnership with the Ministry of Social Affairs and other agencies. He stressed the importance of collective action to serve the homeless population.

Ali Al-Razami, Executive Director of the National Program for the Care and Shelter of the Homeless, highlighted the center's role in addressing decades of neglect towards this vulnerable group. He emphasized that the center marks the beginning of a national vision focused on preserving dignity, providing healthcare, and reintegrating individuals into society.

The opening ceremony included a tour of the center's facilities, including reception areas, clinics, shelter rooms, a restaurant, and sports facilities. Attendees reviewed the level of equipment and medical resources.

Separately, Minister Baja’aleh visited al-Rafa Center for Social Care for the Homeless, also part of the National Program to address Begging. He emphasized the importance of combined community and official efforts to aid the homeless and mentally ill, intensifying care programs, and working towards their treatment and reintegration.
