Tehran-Shaba:
The Iranian Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern over the escalation of violence in Syria, especially in the western coast, emphasizing that the new developments put Syria's new rulers to a real test.
"Recent days have witnessed unfortunate and sad events in different parts of Syria, especially in the western coast," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei said in remarks reported by IRNA news agency on Monday. "We are deeply concerned about reports of insecurity, violence and hostage-taking in these areas."
"We have expressed our concerns in appropriate ways to the countries that have influence and presence in Syria, and we really hope that the killings and violence against the various groups of the Syrian people will stop," he added.
He warned that the continuation of these confrontations "will further complicate the security and political situation in Syrian society, providing an opportunity for parties that do not want the good of the Syrian people and the region to exploit this situation to serve their interests."
