Moscow - Saba:
The Russian space company Energia announced that it is working on a project to develop a high-resolution Earth remote sensing satellite.
A statement issued by the company's press service on Thursday read: "Energia has begun testing a prototype of a new satellite being developed for Earth remote sensing. The prototype has passed vibration resistance tests at various stages and has proven its excellent dynamic structure."
The statement added: "We plan to complete testing of the satellite prototype by the end of this year, after which work will begin on manufacturing the satellite for launch into orbit in 2027."
According to Energia experts, the satellite will be sent into orbit 500 km above the Earth's surface and will be capable of documenting images of the Earth's surface with a resolution of 0.5 meters per pixel.
The satellite is being developed as part of the Advanced Space Systems and Services project, sponsored by the Russian National Technology Initiative.
The project to develop and launch the satellite into space will cost approximately two billion rubles. In December 2024, former Roscosmos chief Yuri Borisov noted that Russia ranked third in the world in terms of satellite constellation development dynamics, with 288 satellites in operation at the time.
