Major Mahmoud Basal, the spokesperson for the Civil Defense Department in Gaza, confirmed on Thursday that the department is going through a difficult and tragic phase with a complete collapse of its service equipment following the destruction of its equipment over the past 15 months of the war of extermination on the Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian SAFA News Agency quoted the spokesperson as saying, "The enemy is once again killing and targeting inhabited civilian homes without any prior warning, launching hundreds of airstrikes."
He added, "The rescue operations carried out by the Civil Defense crews rely on simple, primitive tools that are not up to the task of use in light of the intense shelling and direct targeting of civilians, which prevents us from rescuing all those trapped under the rubble."
Basal explained that "the Civil Defense's inability is due to the lack of equipment, capabilities, and heavy equipment needed to rescue the martyrs trapped under the rubble of destroyed homes."
He explained that the bodies of many families remained trapped under the rubble of their homes, and that Civil Defense crews were unable to extract them. Consequently, they will be added to the list of those trapped, which numbers more than ten thousand martyrs. He noted that the Civil Defense crews are struggling to recover what they can, relying primarily on human resources.
Basal pointed out that Civil Defense crews are being subjected to shelling during their work, hindering attempts to recover the injured and those trapped.
He stressed that "what the Gaza Strip is experiencing is a harsh and difficult scene, and the events are bloody. No mind can imagine what is happening. In less than 24 hours, more than 170 children and more than 80 women were killed, and families were erased from the civil registry."
Basal added that what is happening requires urgent action from international institutions and the international community to intervene and stop the bloodshed in light of the blockade and famine afflicting the Strip.
He emphasized that the statements made by the enemy's army and government to justify the bombing of Gaza are baseless lies, fed to their media outlets to garner international sympathy, and that the goal is to eliminate Hamas.
The Civil Defense spokesman continued, "Is it logical, even if the enemy wants to target a factional figure, to destroy and target so many homes and civilians under the pretext of eradicating Hamas cells?"
Basal emphasized that "what the enemy is doing is nothing but a clear violation of human rights and a policy of purge that must be held accountable through investigation by international organizations and institutions."
At dawn on Tuesday, March 18, the enemy resumed its barbaric aggression on the Gaza Strip with dozens of airstrikes, killing more than 700 people and wounding hundreds within hours, most of them children and women.
