Sana’a – SABA:
The General Authority for Zakat in Yemen launched three humanitarian projects benefiting over 550,000 impoverished families, with a total cost exceeding 11.2 billion Yemeni riyals, as part of its Ramadan charity initiatives for 1446 AH.
The launch took place in the presence of international guests attending the Third International Conference: "Palestine, the Central Cause of the Nation", including representatives from the Arab world, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
Breakdown of the Projects:
- Cash Assistance: Provided to 309,560 families, costing 6.19 billion riyals.
- Zakat al-Fitr: Distributed to 214,306 families, worth 4.28 billion riyals.
- In-Kind Assistance: Food packages (raisins, almonds, honey, coffee, husks, and sesame oil) for 30,000 families, valued at 750 million riyals.
During the event, Sheikh Shamsan Abu Nashtan, head of the Zakat Authority, welcomed the international guests, praising their support for Yemen and the Palestinian cause. He emphasized that these initiatives reflect Islamic values of compassion and solidarity, particularly in contrast to the economic pressures and blockades imposed on Yemen.
Abu Nashtan highlighted that, for the seventh consecutive year, the Zakat Authority has provided in-kind food assistance to Yemen’s most vulnerable, and its charitable reach has extended beyond Yemen to Palestine, Lebanon, and African communities in Yemen.
The event included a poetry recitation by Egyptian poet Mohamed Alwan and a tour of the Zakat Authority’s exhibition, showcasing the in-kind assistance provided.
