The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Wednesday that a terrorist attack at a recreational center in the Russian city of Pyatigorsk was foiled and the person who was planning to carry it out was arrested.
"The FSB thwarted a terrorist act that was planned to be carried out in the city of Pyatigorsk, Stavropol Territory, by a citizen of a Central Asian country, a member of an international terrorist organization banned in Russia," a statement from the agency's Public Relations Center said. The terrorist intended to carry out the attack at a recreation center."
The statement noted that the perpetrator "conducted reconnaissance of the area, purchased weapons and ingredients to make hand-held incendiary devices."
According to the statement, "bottles containing an incendiary mixture were found in the perpetrator's house, which were confiscated, and a criminal investigation was opened on charges of attempting to carry out a terrorist act."
