Madrid - Saba:
Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé is facing the possibility of missing the highly anticipated El Clásico clash against arch-rivals Barcelona after sustaining an injury during the team's Champions League elimination against Arsenal.
Mbappé picked up the injury during last night's second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against the English side. Real Madrid's Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti was compelled to substitute the French international fifteen minutes before the end of regular time due to significant ankle discomfort.
According to a report in the Spanish newspaper "AS" today, the Real Madrid striker suffered a sprained right ankle while attempting to evade a tackle from Arsenal's Declan Rice. He reportedly landed awkwardly on the grass, leading to the injury.
The newspaper noted that Mbappé was able to walk off the pitch, albeit to boos from the Bernabéu crowd.
"AS" raised concerns regarding Mbappé's potential availability for the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona, scheduled to take place in just ten days. Real Madrid is expected to conduct thorough medical examinations on the player to ascertain the severity of the ankle sprain and the estimated recovery period.
Adding to the setback, regardless of the injury's extent, Mbappé will also be unavailable for Real Madrid's upcoming La Liga fixture against Athletic Bilbao due to a suspension stemming from a red card he received in a previous match against Deportivo Alaves.
Real Madrid's Champions League campaign concluded last night following a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the second leg, compounding their 3-0 loss in the first leg of the quarter-final tie.
