Authorities in Ecuador have declared a "state of high alert" in the country due to a supposed plot against recently re-elected President Daniel Noboa.
The government said in a statement on Saturday: "We strongly condemn and reject any attempt to jeopardize the life of the President of the Republic, state authorities or civil servants."
"Ecuador is on high alert, blaming the supposed murder attempt on criminal organizations linked to the political entities that lost the election," the government added in the statement, which did not provide additional details.
Ecuador's electoral council and international observers have ruled out fraud during the election.
Leaked military intelligence reports that assassins had entered Ecuador from Mexico and other countries and were planning to carry out terrorist attacks against the head of state circulated on social media this week.
