Washington - Saba:
Keith Kellogg, the US Special Presidential Envoy to Ukraine, stated that a truce is on the horizon, noting that his team will return to London to resolve and settle the ceasefire issue in Ukraine.
In an interview on Fox News last night, Kellogg spoke about a possible truce in the near future, noting that US President Donald Trump has made significant efforts over the past 90 days to stop this war.
Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a truce in Ukraine on Saturday for Easter.
Putin said in a meeting with the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov: "Based on humanitarian considerations, the Russian side is declaring a truce today, from 6 p.m. until midnight, Sunday through Monday, on the occasion of Easter. I have ordered the cessation of all military operations during this period."
He added, "Russia assumes that the Ukrainian side will follow suit and cease hostilities," stressing that "the Russian armed forces must be prepared to repel possible violations and provocations by the enemy."
Putin emphasized that "the course of the truce will demonstrate the Kyiv regime's willingness and ability to resolve the issue peacefully."
Kellogg had previously expressed his confidence that the conflict resolution process in Ukraine was moving in the right direction.
Kellogg emphasized in press statements that "when he speaks of a comprehensive ceasefire, he means a ceasefire on land, at sea, in the air, and also at industrial facilities, lasting at least 30 days," as he put it.
Kellogg added that the 30-day ceasefire would evolve into a "longer peace agreement" and later into a "permanent peace agreement."
It is noteworthy that Kellogg had previously stated that Ukraine's accession to NATO was "out of the question."
He also hinted at "a set of very good solutions," as he put it, referring to a temporary truce followed by a transition to a comprehensive ceasefire.
