Sana'a - Saba:

A meeting chaired by Minister of Economy, Industry, and Investment, Eng. Maeen al-Mahaqeri, convened in the capital Sana'a on Tuesday to discuss streamlining procedures for the local garment production sector to access exemptions outlined in the Republican Decree on Incentives and Privileges for the Local Garment Textile Sector.

The meeting, which included the heads of the Tax and Customs Authorities, as well as representatives from the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Textile Sector at the Sana'a Chamber of Commerce, the Cooperative Union for Textiles and Garments, and Productive Families, reviewed the current implementation of these exemptions.

Discussions also focused on improving existing mechanisms to achieve the economic and social goals of the exemptions, identifying obstacles hindering their acquisition, and developing effective solutions.

Minister al-Mahaqeri stressed the importance of simplifying tax and customs exemption processes and facilitating the benefits stipulated in the presidential decree for the local textile and clothing sector. He called for a flexible mechanism to ensure swift and uncomplicated access to these exemptions for direct beneficiaries, which would contribute to the growth and expansion of the local garment industry, create jobs, and prioritize support for productive families.

Minister al-Mahqeri explained that these exemptions are part of a national strategy to develop the garment industry, gradually localize production, and foster a real shift towards local manufacturing in this sector to ensure its growth.

He urged an assessment of the exemptions' ongoing impact and continued encouragement for garment factories and productive family workshops. He also emphasized the need for swift implementation of the meeting's outcomes to tangibly benefit the garment industry by simplifying procedures and resolving existing challenges.

The meeting concluded with the approval of a joint mechanism involving the Tax and Customs Authorities, the Textile and Clothing Cooperative Union, and productive families to facilitate the process of obtaining exemptions and privileges granted to this vital sector.
