Amran Water Basin Committee, chaired by Governor Dr. Faisal Ja'man, reviewed applications for drilling new wells and deepening existing ones in Amran and Jabal Ayal Yazid districts.
The meeting, attended by committee members—including Fahd Al-Sufyani, Director of the Water Resources and Facilities Authority branch, Kamal Al-Makhdhi, Director of Rural Water Projects, Naji Salama, Agriculture Sector official, and Nabil Zaid, Director of the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation—examined the technical and legal aspects of the submitted applications for well-drilling permits. The discussions covered objections, legal compliance, and key technical observations.
The attendees, which also included the directors of Amran and Khamr districts, Abdulrahman Al-Ammad and Khumar Wael Abu Halfa, approved one application and rejected the rest due to non-compliance with legal and technical requirements.
Governor Ja'man emphasized the importance of protecting the basin's water sources and implementing measures to preserve groundwater, preventing depletion caused by unregulated drilling. He stressed the need to continue prohibiting random drilling in the basin area, coordinating with relevant authorities to safeguard the basin, prioritizing drinking water , agricultural needs, and restricting new well permits.
Engineer Al-Sufyani, Director of the Water Resources and Facilities Authority branch, presented the technical details of the applications submitted to the authority, including requests for permits to drill three new wells and deepen one existing well within the basin area. He reviewed the proposed locations, justifications, legal compliance, technical observations, and safety considerations.
