Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed on Wednesday that "tariffs harm the global multilateral trading system."
Receiving his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev, in Beijing, Xi Jinping said that "tariffs and trade wars undermine the legitimate rights and interests of all countries, harm the multilateral trading system, and impact the global economic order," according to China's official Xinhua News Agency.
On April 2, US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of reciprocal tariffs on imports from other countries, with a minimum tax of 10 percent.
Trump said this would be a "declaration of economic independence" for the United States and would help use "trillions and trillions of dollars" to pay off the national debt.
