Gaza - (Saba):
The Media Office in the Gaza Strip warned of a rapidly worsening humanitarian disaster, escalating at a frightening pace, in light of the ongoing stifling Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip, the complete closure of crossings for 55 days, and the prevention of the entry of food and humanitarian aid.
This has led to widespread famine and puts the lives of more than 2.4 million people at risk of starvation.
In a press statement issued on Friday, the office stated that the Gaza Strip is on the brink of mass death, with the famine expanding and more than a million children at risk, at a time when vital sectors are collapsing under the weight of a stifling blockade and shameful international silence.
The office explained that famine is no longer just a threat, but has become a bitter reality, with 52 deaths due to hunger and malnutrition recorded, including 50 children, in one of the most horrific forms of slow mass killing.
The office indicated that more than 60,000 children suffer from severe malnutrition, while more than a million children live in the epicenter of danger, suffering daily from hunger that has caused them emaciation and poor physical condition. Thousands of Palestinian families face the threat of starvation after being unable to provide a single meal for their children.
The statement confirmed that the infrastructure in the Gaza Strip has entered a state of complete collapse, with 38 hospitals out of service due to direct bombing or deliberate burning and destruction by the Israeli occupation, and more than 90% of water stations have shut down. Desalination is also severely affected by the lack of fuel and systematic destruction.
The Media Office noted that all bakeries in the Gaza Strip have completely ceased operations due to the depletion of flour and fuel, and the occupation has refused to allow any humanitarian aid shipments into the Strip for more than 50 days.
In light of this unfolding catastrophe, the Government Media Office emphasized that what is happening in the Gaza Strip is a crime of genocide documented in audio and video, in full view of the world, without the international community lifting a finger.
It condemned in the strongest terms the systematic starvation committed by the Israeli occupation, as well as the international silence regarding this heinous crime, which international law classifies as a full-fledged crime against humanity.
The Office held the Israeli enemy fully responsible for this crime, along with the countries that provide it with political and military cover, most notably the United States, Britain, Germany, and France, which it described as complicit in its direct support for the occupation's crimes against humanity.
He called for the formation of independent international committees to investigate the crimes of starvation and slow killing perpetrated by the "Israeli" enemy in the Gaza Strip, stressing the need for urgent international intervention to halt the systematic starvation policy and end the unjust and illegal blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip for 18 years.
