Ramallah - Saba:
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate revealed horrific data documented regarding the Palestinian media landscape during the first quarter of 2025, through a series of crimes, attacks, and violations committed by the Israeli enemy regime, the most serious of which was the martyrdom of 15 journalists.
A report issued by the Syndicate's Freedoms Committee indicated the continued direct targeting of journalists, with 15 killed in the Gaza Strip, including 7 in the first month of the year and 8 in the third month. Seventeen journalists' families and relatives were also killed along with them. Twelve journalists' homes were destroyed by rockets and missiles, while 11 sustained fatal injuries.
The report added that the series of arrests continued in the first quarter, with 15 arrests documented through raids on journalists' homes or from the field. Some remain in Israeli prisons, while others were released after days or hours of detention. The terrifying increase was in the direct targeting of journalistic crews with live ammunition, with 49 incidents recorded where death was very close to death, under the pretext of warning them not to approach or removing them from the area, a terrorist methodology unparalleled in the world.
Approximately 117 journalists were subjected to repression, detention, and indiscriminate harassment, preventing them from covering the events. Most of these occurred in Quds and Jenin. Approximately 14 of them were subjected to physical assaults, such as beatings with rifle butts and kicks. There were also 16 cases of confiscation and destruction of work equipment.
It was noted that approximately 31 journalists were subjected to inhaling toxic tear gas, which caused some to suffocate and subsequently received medical treatment.
The report also documented a significant increase in summonses for investigation of journalists in Quds, with approximately 13 of them informed that they were prohibited from working and covering events in the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Old City of Quds.
The report listed 343 violations and assaults, including other forms of abuse, such as verbal assaults, threats, incitement, deletion of camera footage, trials, and financial fines.
The report concluded with a call for field crews to exercise the highest levels of caution and professional safety, given the Israeli enemy's persistent targeting of journalists, as all facts and data indicate in the first quarter of this year, a consistent strategy since the beginning of the aggression against the Palestinian people in October 2023.
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate affirmed the continuation of its committees' efforts to pursue the crimes of the Israeli enemy in all forums, and to continue its efforts to expose its crimes, bringing it to account and preventing it from escaping punishment.
