Amran - Saba:
The Secretary-General of the Local Council in Amran province, Saleh Al-Makhlous, and the province’s Deputy, Hassan Al-Ashqas, launched on Thursday a project to distribute sewing machines to 110 beneficiaries from the poorest families in Amran District.
The project, implemented by the Yemeni Red Crescent Society in the governorate under the Emergency Response Project with support from the Qatari Red Crescent, aims to support livelihood opportunities for the most vulnerable families, build their capacities, and economically empower them.
During the distribution ceremony and the closing of the training program on economic empowerment, Al-Makhlous emphasized the importance of supporting the poorest families, enhancing women’s skills, and equipping them with income-generating crafts and trades.
He urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the support provided in sewing and embroidery to improve their living standards, encouraging them to establish an association to promote and market their products locally, thereby enhancing their income and enabling them to face economic challenges.
He also stressed the need to expand such sustainable humanitarian projects to reach remote districts, target poor families, and support small businesses to create a self-reliant and productive society. He praised the efforts of the Yemeni Red Crescent in the governorate and the Qatari Red Crescent’s support for humanitarian projects, particularly economic empowerment initiatives.
During the event, attended by Salah Al-Qahoum, Director of the Executive Unit for Road Construction and Public Places Maintenance, Ibrahim Al-Dharhani, Director of the Social Affairs Office in the governorate, highlighted the project’s role in supporting the poorest families through the economic empowerment program. He emphasized the commitment to implementing such initiatives to provide needy families with job opportunities, skill development, and income-generating capabilities.
For his part, Ali Al-Azzab, head of the Yemeni Red Crescent Society in the governorate, stated that the project, which included training for beneficiaries, falls under the society’s third program aimed at enhancing livelihoods and enabling families to become self-sufficient by equipping them with essential skills.
He noted that providing sewing machines and tools aims to strengthen the capacities of the poorest families in economic empowerment and support them with sewing equipment.
Meanwhile, beneficiary families expressed their appreciation for the Yemeni Red Crescent’s efforts and the assistance provided amid the country’s current challenges.
The distribution was attended by Amran District Director Abdulrahman Al-Ammad, Qatari Red Crescent Coordinator in the governorate Yusra Al-Shami, and Public Relations Officer Mohammed Kamil.
