Moscow - Saba:
The Russian Federal Security Service announced on Thursday the arrest of a Ukrainian agent in the southwestern city of Voronezh who provided Kyiv's intelligence services with information about air defense sites and, under Kyiv's direction, planned to bomb an energy site.
Russia Today quoted the Federal Security Service as saying in a statement: "The suspect, born in 1984, was cooperating with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, where he collected classified information about Russian air defense systems in the Voronezh region and transmitted it to the Ukrainian side via WhatsApp."
The statement added: "The investigation also revealed that the suspect had prepared an improvised explosive device to be used in the bombing of an energy facility in the region. The detonator and communications equipment used in the illegal activities were confiscated."
Russian authorities have opened a criminal investigation against the suspect on charges of "high treason," "sabotage," and "illegal possession of explosive materials."
The detainee has reportedly pleaded guilty and is cooperating with investigators.
