Beirut – SABA :
Former Lebanese President General Émile Lahoud affirmed today that disarming the Lebanese resistance amid an ongoing confrontation with the Israeli entity constitutes a betrayal in military terms.
In a statement, Lahoud said:
“Talk of disarming the resistance at this moment is deeply troubling. Surrendering weapons in the middle of a battle is considered betrayal from a military standpoint—especially when just hours ago, a child killed by Israeli treachery was laid to rest, joining hundreds of martyrs who have fallen since the announcement of the ceasefire agreement. This is in addition to daily violations, ongoing occupation, and the continued detention of prisoners.”
He added:
“Even while the Cabinet was discussing the proposal by U.S. envoy Tom Barak, the Israeli enemy was targeting the Masnaa area, killing Lebanese civilians.”
Lahoud’s remarks come in response to a decision by the Lebanese government, based on the American envoy’s proposal, to restrict arms possession solely to the Lebanese army—a move that would require the disarmament of the Lebanese resistance, which continues to defend the country against the Israeli occupation. The proposal has been widely rejected across Lebanon.
