SANAA, Aug. 10 (Saba) - The Ministry of Public Health and Population has announced that 255 people have died or injured due to rains in various provinces.

The operations of the Ministry of Health, in a statement Saba got a copy of it, stated that the number of victims of recent rains in the capital Sanaa and provinces who were transferred to hospitals reached 131 deaths and 124 injured.

The statement indicated that 106 houses and private and public facilities were totally or partially damaged and 156 were partially damaged as of August 7, of which those were swept away or destroyed by the torrential rains.

It pointed out that one of the most important reasons for these tragedies is the reckless handling of many victims with floods, so they move, which often leads to the dredging of their cars or swimming in dams, water barriers, and floods streams, which leads to drowning.

The statement pointed out that one of the main causes of these tragedies is the reckless handling of many victims of floods, so they move their cars or swim in dams, water barriers, and torrential rains, this will result in drowning then death.

According to the statement, one of the reasons is the random construction in the flood streams, which has been met with organizational neglect during the past decades, the lack of proper urban planning in many areas, in addition to the lack of restoration of many old houses affected by heavy rains.

The ministry's statement called on citizens to exercise caution and not to swim at all in dams, flood streams, and barriers, as they are unsafe areas and their water, is unstable, and its water contains materials washed away by floods such as waste, stones, and dust, which leads to the drowning of many of those who swim in them.

It called on everyone not to move between provinces except for the most urgent cases where there is often no rain and torrents and not to risk moving during floods whatever the causes and to wait until the floods are over.

The statement also called for staying away from dams and water barriers when going to tourism along with their children and women and not to try to save any strangers unless the rescuer specializes in this mission because there are many cases that have died due to the improper rescue attempt.

The statement called on local councils and relevant authorities to take the necessary measures to protect citizens, whether by restoring or expanding flood streams or by erecting iron and concrete barriers on dams and water barriers, educating visitors and preventing them from swimming as well as transportation, transferring the markets that were built in the streams, re-planning residential areas and preventing construction on agricultural land.
