The Higher Education Sector of the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research honored on Thursday the winners of the "Sports Championship in Table Tennis, Billiards, and Badminton" for students from public and private universities, as well as community colleges, today.
The event, held under "al-Aqsa Flood Cup" and the slogan "You are not alone," celebrated the achievements of the students in various sports disciplines.
A total of 120 students from 25 universities and community colleges participated in the three-day championship, organized in collaboration with the University of Science and Technology. The competition included both amateur and professional categories for individual events.
In the billiards championship, Saif al-Adl Salam from Queen Arwa University won first place and "Al-Aqsa Flood" Cup, along with a gold medal. Omar Mukhtar from Ibn al-Nafis University secured second place, while Mukhtar Jaroun from the Yemeni Jordanian University took third.
In Badminton, Saddam Hussein from Sana'a University emerged as the champion, winning the cup, gold medal, and first-place prize. Diaa al-Qadasi from the University of Modern Sciences claimed second place, and Ahmed Jumaan from Sana'a University earned third.
The Table Tennis Championship featured both professional and amateur categories. In the professional category, Ayman al-Dhamari from al-Rasheed University won first place, followed by Bashir al-Mahqeri from Sana'a University in second, and Hani al-Razihi from Hajjah University in third. In the amateur category, Osama Hassan from Tontec University took first place, with Yaqeen al-Maghlas from Queen Arwa University in second, and Ahmed al-Nuwaira from Queen Arwa University in third.
Abdulkarim al-Dahhak, Director of Activities in the Higher Education Sector, emphasized that such sports activities aim to promote national, moral, and social values, develop students' skills, and nurture talents.
He also highlighted the ongoing sports, scientific, and cultural activities, noting that the football championship will be held next January with 32 participating universities.
Dr. Faisal Hazza, Secretary General of the University of Science and Technology, reiterated the university's commitment to enhancing partnerships with the higher education sector to support cultural, scientific, and sports activities.
The event concluded with the University of Science and Technology receiving the Ministry's shield for hosting the championship, while appreciation certificates were awarded to the arbitration committees and directors of activities at the participating universities.
