New Zionist escalation: sanctions on Authority & legalization of five settlement outposts in West Bank
New Zionist escalation: sanctions on Authority & legalization of five settlement outposts in West Bank
New Zionist escalation: sanctions on Authority & legalization of five settlement outposts in West Bank
[30/June/2024]

SANA'A June 30. 2024 (Saba) - In a new and dangerous escalation, the Zionist enemy government is working during the current period to impose a new political and security reality in the cities of the occupied West Bank, taking advantage of the brutal war on Gaza that continues for the 266th day.

At dawn today, Friday, the so-called Finance Minister of the Zionist enemy’s government, Bezalel Smotrich, announced that the Zionist “cabinet” approved the legalization of five settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank, and the advancement of plans to build thousands of new settlement units throughout the occupied West Bank.

Smotrich said in a statement: these decisions come in the wake of the Palestinian Authority’s activity in the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice at the United Nations, the arrest warrants against senior Zionist officials and the pressure it exercising for unilateral recognition of Palestinian state by various countries.

The Cabinet also approved withdrawing the permits and benefits of senior Palestinian Authority leaders, and restricting their movements, including preventing them from leaving the Palestinian territories. Activating the law to punish the leaders of the Authority for what Tel Aviv describes as “incitement,” in addition to withdrawing the powers of the Palestinian Authority over the Hebron Desert region, “the Judean Desert,” and implementing the law against the spread of illegal construction in the region.

The Zionist enemy's media revealed the five settlement outposts that are "located in strategic locations" in the West Bank, namely "Avitar" established on the lands of Nablus, "Sadi Ephraim" and "Givat Assaf" established on the lands of Ramallah and Al-Bireh, and "Haletz" on the lands between Hebron and Bethlehem.
In addition to the “Adorim” settlement outpost established on the lands of Hebron, in addition to “issuing tenders for settlement construction, and inviting the Supreme Planning Directorate to meet and approve plans to build thousands of settlement housing units in the occupied West Bank.”

Experts and political analysts believe that these Zionist measures affect the Palestinian Authority and do not consider it a ruling authority in preparation for its overthrow.. Pointing out that the enemy will present pretexts, including that the Palestinian Authority’s “existence has become unjustified or worthless.”

The academic researcher in political sciences and editor-in-chief of Palestinian affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Rabaya, confirmed that the “cabinet” decisions were expected and prepared in advance, but they came under the pretext of the National Authority’s legal action in the International Criminal Court and the recognition of the State of Palestine by five countries.
He indicating that these decisions are part of from hollowing out the authority and undermining its powers in a progressive manner, and effectively saying that the Palestinian Authority has no jurisdiction over the land and partial jurisdiction over the population, and it is expected that subsequent steps will build on this, as he put it.

In the same context, researcher in political science and “Israeliat” Dr. Iyad Abu Znait confirmed that Smotrich’s recent decisions come in line with the settler-colonial mentality that the Zionist entity has grown up with since the beginning of its existence, specifically with regard to the issue of settlement and its growth in the occupied West Bank.

He explained that these decisions carry important dimensions of significance from two aspects: the first aspect is to strengthen the strategic position of settlers in the West Bank, and accelerate settlement operations to expand the demographic presence, and this constitutes for Israel greater control over the areas of the West Bank, as for the other aspect, it relates to ideological thinking in the West Bank, as the ancient kingdom of the children of Israel, matches Smotrich's religious mentality, as well as his religious extremist supporters.

Abu Znait warned that the Zionist entity is based on erasing the indigenous people from their places of residence, because it considers them the focus of the threat posed to it... This is similar to what happened before 1948 AD, of the displacement and deportation of Palestinians, and is completely consistent with the Zionist mentality that believes that there is no place in the land Palestine only for the Jews, as for the Palestinians, we must work to deport them by any means, and that is why Smotrich’s decisions come within this framework.

He pointed out that the Zionist decisions relate to moving from the stage of managing the conflict to the stage of resolving it with the Palestinians, and this will have major repercussions for both parties, as it will escalate the scale of the confrontation in the occupied and expand it further.

Regarding Smotrich’s decision to build and legitimize five settlement outposts according to the number of countries that recognized the State of Palestine, he stressed that this comes as a reaction and challenge to the decisions of those countries... pointing out that this action will not serve the Zionist entity in the long term, because this entity has the mentality of Smotrich that no longer exists, he sees the international community as having no influence on him, and this is contrary to the truth.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the approval of the so-called Zionist “cabinet” to legitimize five colonial outposts in the West Bank, and advance plans to build thousands of new colonial units throughout the West Bank.

The ministry said in a statement today, Friday: It "views with extreme seriousness the Zionist government's continuation of committing the crime of settlement expansion and deepening apartheid, with the aim of closing the door on any opportunity to materialize a Palestinian state, and holds it fully and directly responsible for its consequences and its dangerous repercussions on the arena of conflict and the region in its entirety.”

The Ministry considered that "the settlement escalation taking place in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, is a blatant challenge to the relevant international legitimacy resolutions, especially Resolution 2334, and an official Zionist disdain for the international consensus rejecting colonialism as obstacle to implementing two state solution."

The Ministry called for urgent American and international intervention to stop its illegal unilateral measures, impose deterrent international sanctions on the entire system of racist colonial occupation, and exert real pressure on the Zionist government to stop settlement activity and submit to the international will for peace.

In turn, the Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative Movement, Mustafa Barghouti, considered that the Zionist government’s decision constitutes “a declaration of annexation and Judaization of the entire West Bank, and the most dangerous thing facing the Palestinian people since the Nakba of 1948.”

Barghouti warned that the decisions of the Zionist cabinet included the complete seizure of the civil powers of the Palestinian Authority in the so-called Area (B) and subjecting it to the control of the settlers led by Smotrich, after the abolition of the security powers of the Authority in Area (A) in a move that is considered “a confirmation of the Zionist enemy’s end to everything remainder of the Oslo Accords.

It is noteworthy that in 1995, the “Oslo II” agreement classified the West Bank lands into three areas: “A” subject to full Palestinian control “B” subject to Zionist, civil, and Palestinian security control, and “C” subject to civil, administrative, and security control Zionism.

Last April, Smotrich called for severing ties with the Palestinian Authority, stressing that he was "convinced that the Palestinian Authority poses a direct threat to its occupying entity, and we must work to overthrow it," as he put it.

On June 13, Smotrich ordered the deduction of $35 million from the Palestinian Authority’s tax funds (clearance), and its transfer to Zionist families who claim that members of them were killed in attacks carried out by Palestinians.

A few days ago, Smotrich confirmed that he would fight with all his might “the establishment of a Palestinian state,” and would continue, through his powers, “to develop settlement in the West Bank and enhance security.”

The extremist Zionist minister's words came after an audio recording obtained by the American newspaper "The New York Times" revealed his plan to strengthen Zionist control over the West Bank and abort any attempt to be part of the Palestinian state.

On the same level, Canada imposed a new package of sanctions on “extremist settlers” in the occupied West Bank, due to their involvement in committing “acts of violence” against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, calling on Tel Aviv to intervene to stop these crimes.

The Canadian government said in a statement : The sanctions target seven individuals and five entities “for their role in facilitating, supporting, or financially contributing” to this violence.

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie expressed her "deep concern" about this violence... stressing her condemnation of these acts and calling on the Zionist authorities to "ensure the protection of the civilian population and hold those responsible accountable" for these crimes.

The sanctions included Ben Zion Gopstein, who is close to the extreme right-wing Zionist minister Itamar Ben Gvir and his Jewish supremacy organization “Lehava,” and the “Hilltop Youth” group that establishes settlement outposts without official Zionist licenses, in addition to two of the leaders of this group, Meir Mordechai Ettinger and Elisha Yered. .

Canadian sanctions also targeted the Amana Association, which campaigns to build settlements and settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank.

The sanctions prohibit any dealings with the individuals and entities covered by them, and prevent them from entering Canadian territory.

In recent months, Britain, France, the European Union and the United States have imposed similar sanctions.

It is worth noting that the Zionist enemy has been waging a brutal military campaign against the Gaza Strip since the seventh of last October, with European-American support.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that more than 37,700 Palestinians have been martyred since the beginning of this aggression against the Strip.
