TOKYO August 19. 2024 (Saba) - An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck northeastern Tokyo on Monday morning.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said in a statement that the quake struck in northern Ibaraki Prefecture, measuring 5 on the Japanese seismic scale of seven.
Japan's Kyodo News Agency reported that no tsunami warning was issued, and there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the quake.
Japan experiences about 1,500 earthquakes and tremors each year, accounting for about 18 percent of the world's earthquakes, but most are mild.
