OCCUPIED QUDS August 19. 2024 (Saba) - The United Nations Human Rights Office in the occupied Palestinian territory expressed concern over the recent and ongoing Zionist settlement expansion and legal changes in the occupied West Bank.
The office said in a statement on Monday that the procedures for this expansion are contrary to international law, including the ruling issued by the International Court of Justice last July, referring to the announcement by the so-called Zionist Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich last week of a military order to allocate 148 acres of land for the new settlement "Nahal Hillitz", which is scheduled to be built west of Bethlehem, which encroaches on the Palestinian site of Battir, which is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The statement added that this order came following the decision of the Zionist enemy government on June 27 to establish five new settlements, including "Nahal Hillitz", using Zionist law to "legalize" the settlement outposts that were present in these sites, all of which remain illegal under international law.
The statement pointed out that settlements, settler violence and the presence of settlers are the root causes of the majority of human rights violations in the West Bank, including East Al- Quds.
