GAZA August 22. 2024 (Saba) - A report on Thursday revealed the difficult conditions suffered by the orphaned children in Gaza whose parents were martyred or arrested in 11 months of Zionist aggression on the Strip.
According to the report, prepared by the New York Times, UN experts estimated that at least 19,000 children now live separately from their parents in the Gaza Strip, either with their relatives or with other caregivers.
Relied on experts who used a statistical method derived from the analysis of other wars, the report suggested that the real number of these orphaned children may be higher.
Other wars have not involved so much bombing and displacement in such a small, crowded place with a large child population, according to Jonathan Cricks, a spokesman for the U.N. Children's agency.
"The war in Gaza is depriving children of their parents, depriving parents of their children, undermining the natural order of life, destroying the basic unity of life in Gaza, and creating huge numbers of orphans amid chaos that no aid agency can count," the report said.
The report quoted medical staff as saying the children were left to wander through hospital corridors after being taken there with blood and alone. Neonatal units also house babies whom no one has come to claim them.
