SOLINGEN August 24. 2024 (Saba) - Authorities in Germany are intensifying their search for a suspect who killed three people and injured five others during a stabbing incident at a festival in the city of Solingen on Friday evening.
The Dusseldorf police released a statement early Saturday, confirming that efforts to locate the perpetrator are ongoing. "The police are actively searching for the suspect," the statement said, adding that both victims and witnesses are being questioned.
A significant police presence has been deployed in the area as the hunt for the attacker continues. Residents have been urged to assist investigators by providing any information, photos, or videos that could lead to the suspect's capture.
"The attacker randomly stabbed people with a knife," Alexander Kresta, a spokesperson for the Wuppertal police, told *Bild* newspaper.
A "major operation" is underway, with large sections of the area cordoned off, according to a spokesperson for the Dusseldorf police.
The attack occurred during celebrations marking the 650th anniversary of the city's founding in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Emergency vehicles and additional police units have been dispatched to the scene, and the public is being advised to avoid the area, as reported by ZDF.
