US President-elect Donald Trump announced the selection of real estate investor and campaign donor, Zionist Stephen Witkoff, as his special envoy to the Middle East, described by Israeli media as a great supporter of Israel.
Trump described him as someone who ‘loves Israel very much’ and will work to achieve peace in the Middle East, according to the Palestinian Ma'an News Agency.
Witkoff is among Trump's closest friends. He has donated millions of dollars to his political campaigns and previously served as an unofficial adviser to the former president on several issues including tax cuts.
‘Steve is a highly respected leader in business and philanthropy who has made every project and community he has touched stronger and more prosperous,’ Trump wrote. ‘Steve will be a special envoy for the Middle East. A resolute voice for peace, he will make us all proud.’
Vitkoff sat in the audience during Netanyahu's speech to Congress last July, and attacked the Democratic Party for their cold response to his speech, which he described as ‘moving,’ especially when Netanyahu spoke about the kidnappers in Gaza.
