Caracas - Saba:
The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry considered Washington's recognition of right-wing opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia as the country's elected president a “ridiculous step” and a repetition of the scenario of its recognition of the opposition Juan Guaido in 2019 as interim president of the country.
AFP quoted the ministry as saying in a statement today: “US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, a sworn enemy of Venezuela, took this absurd step by insisting on doing it again with Gonzalez Urrutia with a second version of Guaido supported by fascists and terrorists subject to US policy.”
The Venezuelan reaction came after the outgoing US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that the United States recognizes opposition leader Urrutia as Venezuela's president-elect, after Washington refused to recognize Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's victory in the elections held on July 28 under the supervision of a number of independent bodies that confirmed their authenticity.
