The second day of the fourth round of the eighth Corporate Sevens Football Championship resulted in Yemen and Kuwait Bank and CAC Bank qualifying for the quarterfinals. The tournament is sponsored by the Ministry of Youth with support from Yemen Mobile.
Yemen and Kuwait Bank and CAC Bank secured their places at the top of the first and second groups, respectively, even without playing this round. The results of the other teams helped them qualify before the end of the group stage.
Three matches were held on Thursday, the second day of the fourth (penultimate) round of the group stage. In the first match of Group A, the Ministry of Oil team boosted their chances of advancing to the second round by defeating the Public Authority for Insurance team with a score of 4-1.
The goals for the Ministry of Oil team were scored by Adnan Taher in the 10th and 25th minutes and Hussein Al-Aidros in the 19th and 39th minutes. The Public Authority for Insurance's goal was scored by Mustafa Al-Mutawakkil in the 33rd minute.
With this result, the Ministry of Oil team raised their tally to four points in third place, with one game remaining in the group stage. The Public Authority for Insurance's tally stopped at six points after finishing their games in the tournament. This result benefited Yemen and Kuwait Bank, which secured first place even if they lose their last group match.
The other two matches on Thursday were in Group B. Bahrain Bank achieved an important victory over the Food Association team with a 3-0 score, with goals scored by Amin Al-Sabahi in the 27th and 37th minutes and Khaled Al-Ward in the 30th minute.
In the second match of the group, Telem Yemen and the Palestinian Community teams tied with a score of 4-4. For Telem Yemen, Ahmed Al-Sadiq scored twice in the 44th and 47th minutes, Ammar Al-Maqtari scored in the 36th minute, and Ammar Al-Borai scored in the 5th minute. For the Palestinian Community team, Mohammed Al-Jundubi scored twice in the 12th and 25th minutes, Mohammed Al-Baadhani scored in the 13th minute, and Mahmoud Al-Madhoun scored in the 24th minute.
As a result of these two matches, CAC Bank, leading with nine points, and Bahrain Bank, second with seven points, secured the two qualifying spots from Group B to the second round. The Food Association team placed third with three points, the Palestinian Community team fourth with two points, and Telem Yemen fifth with one point, with their hopes of qualifying dashed.
The fourth round matches will conclude on Friday with two matches in Group C. The highlight will be the group leader Ministry of Youth and Sports team (six points) facing second-place Yemen International Bank, who have the same points with a goal difference advantage for the Ministry team. In the last match of the round, the bottom two teams without points, the Public Prosecutor's Office team and the Telecommunications Institution 2 team, will face off, having lost their hopes of competing for the two qualifying spots to the second round.
