The wheelchair basketball tournament for people with motor disabilities, organized by the General Federation of Sports for Persons with Disabilities on the occasion of the National, Arab and International Day for Persons with Disabilities, concluded in Sana'a today under the title "Al-Aqsa Flood .... The Promised Day".
The five-day tournament, funded by the Fund for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Disabled and the International Committee of the Red Cross, involved 54 male and female players representing associations, clubs and centers for people with disabilities in Capital Secretariat.
At the conclusion of the tournament, which was attended by Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Nabih Abu Shusa, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Ali Hadban affirmed the ministry's readiness to provide support and overcome difficulties for people with disabilities to integrate them into society and develop their abilities in various sports.
Patrick Hauser, deputy head of the ICRC delegation in Yemen, explained that the ICRC's funding of the wheelchair basketball tournament is an opportunity to highlight disability in Yemen and work towards the full integration of people with disabilities into society.
Hauser affirmed the ICRC's commitment to continue its humanitarian operations in Yemen in cooperation with local partners, including the Red Crescent Society, guided by the principle of neutrality and the needs of the people, praising the support of the Yemeni authorities and their commitment to supporting people with disabilities.
The President of the General Federation for Sports for Persons with Disabilities, Abdrabah Nasser Hamid, reviewed the tournament program and the stages of training the participants over a year in wheelchair basketball skills
The leaders of the Ministries of Youth and Sports, Social Affairs and Labor, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the technical committee of the tournament, sports personalities, supporters and contributors to support people with disabilities and the 2024 Wheelchair Basketball Championship were honored.
