Civil Aviation Authority condemns Israeli aggression on Sana'a International Airport
[Fri, 27 Dec 2024 21:40:41 +0300]

Sana'a - Saba:
The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology condemned the Israeli aggression on Sana'a International Airport, which led to the destruction of parts of its infrastructure, including navigational equipment and the air traffic control tower.

The Authority explained in a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) a copy of it, that the direct targeting of the airport resulted in the deaths and injuries of employees, civilian receptionists, and a crew member of a United Nations plane that was preparing to take off on its scheduled flight.

It stated that this attack is a flagrant violation of international laws and conventions, most notably the International Civil Aviation Convention (Chicago) and the Montreal Convention of 1988, which prohibit attacks on civilian airports and their equipment.

The statement considered the attack a crime against humanity and a violation of the UN Charter on Human Rights, noting that targeting Sana'a airport falls within the policy of collective punishment practiced against the Yemeni people, which exacerbates the suffering of patients and travelers.

It pointed out that despite this targeting, the Authority worked to restore the airport's readiness to alleviate the suffering of patients and travelers.

The Authority confirmed that the airport will resume its work starting today, Friday, according to the daily schedule of civilian flights of Yemeni Airlines to Jordan and UN flights.

It called on the international community and the International Civil Aviation Organization to bear responsibility for these crimes and work to protect airports and civilian facilities in Yemen.
