Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahawi met today with the head of the customs authority, engineer Adel Margham, to discuss the efforts exerted in combating smuggling and facilitating customs procedures.
Al-Rahawi stressed the importance of concerted efforts of the concerned authorities to protect the economy and society from the harmful effects of smuggling, praising the efforts of the authorities in facilitating customs clearance operations and monitoring ports. He also called for continuing to simplify procedures for importers to ensure a smooth flow of imports.
During the meeting, they discussed the negative effects of smuggling and the importance of enhancing cooperation between the customs authority and other authorities to reduce them, especially since smuggled goods often lack the required specifications and standards.
Engineer Margham gave a presentation on the activities of the authority, pointing to its efforts in controlling import and export operations across all ports and simplifying procedures in the implementation of government directives and programs.
