Rome - Saba:
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) announced today, Friday, a decline in global food commodity prices in January, thanks to a sharp decline in sugar and vegetable oil prices.
The FAO index, which tracks the prices of the most traded food commodities worldwide on a monthly basis, averaged 124.9 points in January, compared to 127 points in December.
Despite the monthly decline, the index remained 6.2 percent higher than its level a year ago, but is still 22 percent lower than its peak in March 2022.
