Three people injured in knife attack in Irish capital

Three people injured in knife attack in Irish capital
[Mon, 10 Feb 2025 17:32:48 +0300]

Dublin - Saba:
The Irish Times reported that three people were injured after being attacked with a knife in downtown Dublin, noting that the attacker was arrested.

The newspaper quoted the local police as saying today that "one person suspected of carrying out the attack was detained, after three people were injured by stab wounds in the Stoneypeter area of Dublin, on Sunday afternoon."

The sources explained that the injured were taken to the hospital, where two of them suffer serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the third sustained less serious injuries.

The newspaper indicated that the attacker used a kitchen knife in the attack, and that the victims were apparently chosen randomly.

According to reports, one of the victims was attacked on the doorstep of his home after returning home. The Irish Times quoted its sources as saying that the police do not have any evidence to suggest that the attack was terrorist-motivated.

This came during a televised debate between Scholz and his conservative opponent, leader of the Christian Democratic Union party Friedrich Merz, in preparation for the German legislative elections scheduled for February 23.

When asked about his opinion on Trump's proposal to redevelop Gaza into the "Riviera of the Middle East", Scholz replied: "(It is) a scandal. In addition, (Riviera) is a really terrible expression", given the extent of the destruction witnessed in Gaza.

He added: "Resettling the population is unacceptable and violates international law", and referred to the position of Egypt and Jordan rejecting the displacement of Palestinians.

In turn, Mertz said: "I share this assessment. This (proposal) is one of a series of proposals from the US administration that certainly raise concerns, but we must wait to see what is seriously meant by it and how it is implemented - perhaps there is a lot of empty rhetoric in this."
